Why Experiences Are the Better Gift for the Holidays

Why Experiences Are the Better Gift for The Holidays

The holidays are right around the corner. During this time of the year, it feels like every store has some sort of sale going on. If you’re looking for some deals for holiday gifts, that may sound like great news.

But is more stuff really the right kind of present? Perhaps there’s a better alternative that your loved ones will appreciate.

Gifts don’t have to be things.

These days, there’s no shortage of things you can buy. Some would even argue that there’s too much. People already expect that if they’re going to get a gift, it’s something they can hold.

Why not buck that trend and go for something more special? This holiday season, rather than adding to a pile of stuff that’s just sitting in someone’s closet, consider giving something they can experience. If you want to make someone happy, even Forbes says that’s the real secret.

Experiences are treasured forever.

As a kid, you probably had a favorite toy. You’d play with it every chance you get, but as time went by, you did so less and less. That’s simply part of growing up—you outgrow some of the things in your life.

By now, that favorite toy of yours is likely long gone. But when you look back, you still remember the good times. It’s not really about the toy but all the fun you had.

There’s no chance it’ll end up in a landfill.

You’re not the only one looking to buy stuff on sale. Shoppers all over the country are gearing up to take advantage of the upcoming deals. And as we’ve just talked about, a lot of those things won’t last forever. Many of them will end up in the trash sometime in the future.

As people who enjoy the mountains, we’re more aware of our impact on the environment. Instead of buying things that might just get tossed away one day, perhaps it’s better to look for experiences that we’ll take with us for the rest of our lives.

If you’re looking for a different kind of gift this holiday season, consider sending over one of our kits. With less luggage to worry about, your special someone can save some cash on their vacation flights which they can then put into having a bigger adventure on the slopes. We’ll make sure they have the best gear waiting for them at their destination so they’re ready to enjoy all the fun without any of the hassles.

Sustainability: The Top Winter Trend for the 2019-2020 Ski Season

Sustainability: The Top Winter Trend for the 2019-2020 Ski Season

According to the ISPO, sustainability is one of the leading trends in winter sports. Basically, everyone’s looking for ways to lessen their impact on the environment and continue to enjoy the sport they love. After all, how can you go skiing if there are no powdery mountains to ski on?

Making A Future for Our Slopes

As people look towards sustainable practices, brands are starting to step up. Patagonia, for example, is working to eliminate or mitigate all their carbon emissions by 2025.

Another way manufacturers have answered is by developing new materials. Innovations such as insulation made from recyclable and biodegradable fibers and alternatives to products made from petroleum-based sources are slowly gaining traction.

While this is definitely a step in the right direction, it’ll take a while before you see them being worn by the average skier. But you don’t have to wait for that to happen. Each of us can contribute in our own way right now.

We’re Doing Our Part, Too

Since Kit Lender started, we’ve delivered more than 16,000 kits to customers all around the country. In 2019 alone, over 12.1 tons of gear have made their way to the mountains and back to our doors.

We do our best to make sure that every piece is used as much as it can be, even if it’s not by our customers. Older items (that are still perfectly usable) are either sold or donated so that they can continue to do the job they were made for instead of being thrown away.

You don’t have to buy a set of ski wear only to get rid of it after a couple of seasons. We help provide an alternative that gets that gear where it needs to be—worn by skiers and not piled up in a landfill.

How You Can Do Yours

If you’re only using it for a few weekends, buying an entire set of ski wear can be hard to justify. Besides, who knows if what you buy today will still be fashionable by next season?

If you’re not exactly a die-hard skier, renting might be a better option. You can choose from one of our kits that come in the latest designs from brands like The North Face, Patagonia, Obermeyer, and more.

It makes even more sense for kids who’ll quickly outgrow their gear. Our selection also includes kits for boys and girls who may be heading up the mountains for the first time.

On average, our kits will save you about 80% of the cost of an entire skiing outfit. At the same time, you’ll be helping out the environment by making sure no piece of gear goes to waste. Check out our collection and get kitted out today!
