5 Ski Resorts That Plan to Open Early in 2019

Posted on September 4, 2019

Fall is just about to begin but it’s never too early to plan your next ski trip. In fact, many resorts are taking steps to open their doors before winter even arrives.

Just take a look at these five places that are planning to start the season early this year.

1)   Arapahoe Basin

Planned Opening: October 10, 2019

Arapahoe Basin has a reputation for early openings. And with the white stuff already spotted on the mountain, it looks like they’ll be starting ahead of the pack as usual.

One thing that’s changed this year though is that Arapahoe is no longer included in the Epic Pass. For the 2019-2020 season, they’ll be joining the Ikon Pass. Keep that in mind if you’re interested in getting one of the passes.

2)   Keystone Resort

Planned Opening: October 2019

Back in June, Vail Resorts announced plans to open several of their properties early for the ski season. One of them is Keystone Resort.

The place usually opens in November but as a result of improvements to their energy-efficient, automated snowmaking system, they’re able to push this up to October. You can expect to ski or snowboard on twice as much terrain compared to what’s usually available around this time.

3)   Breckenridge Ski Resort

Planned Opening: November 8, 2019

Breckenridge Ski Resort also announced that their side of the mountain should be ready at the start of November. Under the right conditions, the resort hopes to have skiers on their slopes until May 25, 2020.

Visitors can look forward to new amenities such as a children’s ski & snowboard school, childcare services, equipment rental, and more in a new 22,000 square foot facility at the resort’s Peak 8 base.

4)   Mammoth Mountain Ski Area

Planned Opening: November 9, 2019

According to Mammoth Mountain’s calendar, they’ll be kicking off the 2019/2020 winter season in early November.

As is the tradition in the area, those who’ll be attending opening day can experience their Broadway Express banner breakthrough and annual beer toast. That’s more than enough reason to head over—other than the skiing, of course.

5)   Vail Ski Resort

Planned Opening: November 15, 2019

Alongside the announcement for Keystone and Breckenridge, Vail Ski Resort also revealed that they’ll be ready to welcome guests before Thanksgiving.

Upgrades to their snowmaking equipment will allow them to open up more terrain and at higher elevations. Come November, skiers will be able to enjoy almost 200 acres of the resort before the crowds arrive later on in the season.
