Sustainability: The Top Winter Trend for the 2019-2020 Ski Season

According to the ISPO, sustainability is one of the leading trends in winter sports. Basically, everyone’s looking for ways to lessen their impact on the environment and continue to enjoy the sport they love. After all, how can you go skiing if there are no powdery mountains to ski on?

Making A Future for Our Slopes

As people look towards sustainable practices, brands are starting to step up. Patagonia, for example, is working to eliminate or mitigate all their carbon emissions by 2025.

Another way manufacturers have answered is by developing new materials. Innovations such as insulation made from recyclable and biodegradable fibers and alternatives to products made from petroleum-based sources are slowly gaining traction.

While this is definitely a step in the right direction, it’ll take a while before you see them being worn by the average skier. But you don’t have to wait for that to happen. Each of us can contribute in our own way right now.

We’re Doing Our Part, Too

Since Kit Lender started, we’ve delivered more than 16,000 kits to customers all around the country. In 2019 alone, over 12.1 tons of gear have made their way to the mountains and back to our doors.

We do our best to make sure that every piece is used as much as it can be, even if it’s not by our customers. Older items (that are still perfectly usable) are either sold or donated so that they can continue to do the job they were made for instead of being thrown away.

You don’t have to buy a set of ski wear only to get rid of it after a couple of seasons. We help provide an alternative that gets that gear where it needs to be—worn by skiers and not piled up in a landfill.

How You Can Do Yours

If you’re only using it for a few weekends, buying an entire set of ski wear can be hard to justify. Besides, who knows if what you buy today will still be fashionable by next season?

If you’re not exactly a die-hard skier, renting might be a better option. You can choose from one of our kits that come in the latest designs from brands like The North Face, Patagonia, Obermeyer, and more.

It makes even more sense for kids who’ll quickly outgrow their gear. Our selection also includes kits for boys and girls who may be heading up the mountains for the first time.

On average, our kits will save you about 80% of the cost of an entire skiing outfit. At the same time, you’ll be helping out the environment by making sure no piece of gear goes to waste. Check out our collection and get kitted out today!
